Lord Field Staff Profile

Meet Danny Lew

By Jackie Wyckoff

Danny Lew is a guy we all should look up to. He is a great bowler, a true champion and has a fantastic sense of humor (which I will introduce you to later). He has more than two-dozen 300 games to his credit and nearly as many 800 series. He averages in the 230’s and in the 2008-09 season he certified a 245 average. YIKES! That is talent. But that is not why we should look up to him – or more accurately not the main reason. Along with his “regular” job at Bayer Healthcare in Berkley, Master Sergeant Danny Lew has put his life on the line since 1993 as an Army Reservist to protect our American Freedom. He served for ten years as a Drill Sergeant at Fort Knox, KY, FT Benning, GA and Fort Jackson, SC and returned from a seven-month tour to Afghanistan in July 2012 where he was a Counter IED Instructor. He has served as a pharmacy supervisor, Drill Sergeant, Combat life-saver and observer-controller-trainer during his Army career. Yet, he still finds time for family, a regular job and of course, bowling. A true renaissance man! Lew was born in Panama where he picked up his first bowling ball at age five. His dad bowled league 5 nights a week so it just came naturally to him. He has bowled in the Military Championships Tournament since 2005, except for 2012 when he was in Afghanistan. He seems to have a handle on bowling well in the event. He was Second in All-Events in 2007, Third in 2008 and 2011 and was All-Events Champion in 2009 and 2010. Noted Lew “I missed a three-peat in All-Events in 2011 by five stinkin’ pins!” In May 2013 Lew bowled the All-Army bowling championships in Camp LeJeune, NC. To say he did well is an understatement! He won a Gold Medal in Singles, Doubles, Team, Team All-Events, and Individual All-Events. Can you say SWEEP? He also won the Bronze Medal in the Mixed Doubles, averaging a sweet 255 in that event and 225 over the course of the tournament. Danny’s go-to ball is the Original Judgment. “That ball is absolute MONEY” he said. Other favorites include Perfect “a close second in the arsenal” and Get Some. Tony Martin, Vice President of Operations for Lane Masters and Lord Field, U.S. said “Danny is one of our original staffers. He has a discipline that very few have. I enjoy working with Danny personally and helping him to set up his gear with his ball driller. Danny is a great asset to the Lord Field / Lane Masters family.” Lew is a “Bay Area Guy”, having bowled during his youth years at Fairfield, Pinole Valley and Albany Lanes. He moved to Stockton in 2004 where he met Sirena Lee and married her in 2004. Of course she is a bowler as well, averaging around 190. Sirena and Danny have two kids, Lorenzo, age 7 and Aryanna, age 4. I really enjoyed interviewing Danny. He has a great sense of humor. When I asked for his bio, he replied “My favorite color is Army Green; I enjoy moonlit walks on the beach, getting caught in the rain and I love Pina Coladas”. Actually, he does love those foo-foo drinks that come with an umbrella. Go figure, a Drill Sergeant! I can’t wait to actually meet him in person and pay off my bet. I owe him a beer (I refuse to do foo-foo)!
